Women in the Bible — a new Wednesday evening Bible series — begins Jan. 29, 2025

St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church is facilitating an eight-week “Women in the Bible” study taking place on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. EST, from Jan. 29 through March 26 (skipping March 5, Ash Wednesday). Professor Sandie Gravett, who presented the Slavery in the Bible series in early 2024, will present background and insights followed by a facilitated discussion.

This study explores stories of and texts about women in the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, Apocrypha, and larger tradition of Jewish and Christian writings.

While some material may be familiar, contemporary scholarship helps us to see it in new ways. And there will likely be a few women you have not encountered previously. This journey will think through cultural assumptions regarding women’s bodies and roles as well as point out the ways in which women often defied and impacted such norms. This study also raises contemporary questions about gender and sexuality that are culturally current and important in communities of faith.

You may attend in person at St. Timothy’s, 2601 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46227, in Williams Hall or via Zoom. Tim Kramer, St. Timothy’s Bible Study leader, will facilitate the discussion each week.

Please register by sending an email to kramer501@msn.com with “Women in the Bible Series” in the subject line. There is no fee for this series.
